About us

	Meet IUED
	The Israel Union for Environmental Defense (IUED) is Israel’s leading environmental advocacy organization. IUED works to protect Israel’s environment – as a public watchdog, as a catalyst to policy reform, as a source of free legal counsel to victims of environmental hazards, and as an initiator of strategic campaigns to further environmental goals. Where the average Israeli citizen might remain helpless against powerful economic interests, we give voice to their concerns, and champions their needs. Founded in 1990, our organization today includes 27 lawyers and scientists specializing in air and water quality, solid waste management specialists, urban planners, an environmental economist and university student interns in a variety of disciplines. Our national membership numbers over 4,000.

Staff Profile - Eli Ben Ari, Senior Attorney

Eli Ben Ari joined IUED in its early days, in 1995. Today he is head of the legal team and senior attorney in all of our land use and planning legal interventions. He was instrumental in the drafting of the landmark Coastline Protection Law (2004) and has secured legal precedents that permit shoreline construction only for tourism or public purposes>>
