Solid waste disposal in Israel causes significant and irreversible damage to Israel’s air, soil, groundwater, and quality of life.
Israel currently produces some 5.3 million tons of garbage each year – an average of nearly 5 pounds per person per day. Over 80 percent of this waste is still buried in landfills – an impractical solution in a country with a high standard of living, rising population, and scarcity of land resources.
